 ** All preschool children (3years and pre-K) must be potty trained to start school. Diapers and pull ups are not allowed.

 
 

 
 
DAYS OPEN
The First United Methodist Preschool will follow the same calendar and procedures as the Tangipahoa Parish School System except the beginning and ending dates. Classes begin the Wednesday following Labor Day and end the Wednesday before Memorial Day. If a holiday falls on a day that your child attends, you may not substitute for another day.

Early Care                                                    7:30 am - 8:00 am
Preschool and Mother’s Day Out Program        8:00 am - 1:00 pm                                                                                                
Extended Care (Children 2 years – Pre-K)        1:00 pm - 5:30 pm
 
 

 
 
RELIGION

Religion is taught daily in all classrooms. The children learn Bible verses, Bible stories, and Bible songs weekly. The children visit God’s House, the Church twice a week for a daily devotional with the pastor and the teachers.

  
EDUCATION

All classes teach math, science, and social studies skills. The children are taught at their appropriate age level through thematic units. Early literacy is taught through reading, singing, and verbal communication. Phonics and handwriting skills are also taught daily in the preschool and pre-k classes. Spanish is taught twice a week to the two, three, and four year old classes.

  

MOVEMENT

The children are offered lots of time to move at FUMP. Daily the children play outside on the playground and sing and dance to interactive songs in the classroom. Once a week the children enjoy music time where they move and groove while learning new bible songs and classic children songs. When the weather is pretty children get to enjoy nature walks, scavenger hunts and other outside activities that go along with what they are learning.

LIFE SKILLS

Good manners, socialization skills, and the Fruits of the Spirit are taught and reinforced daily in all classrooms.

  

HEALTH

First United Methodist Preschool is a place for healthy children. Sick children will NOT be allowed to stay. If your child exhibits symptoms of illness during the day, we will contact you immediately to pick him/her up.

Staff members are certified by the American Safety and Health Institute in Adult/Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid.

 

 

SNACK AND LUNCH                                                                                                                                                                 

Lunch time and snack time is usually held in the classroom. On pretty days the children enjoy eating outside on the picnic tables.

Morning: A nutritious morning snack is provided to all children.

Lunch: All children bring their own lunch in a lunch box.

Aftercare: A snack and drink is provided after napping.

 

OPEN DOOR POLICY 

First United Methodist Preschool welcomes parents to visit at anytime during the school day to observe their child. Prospective parents are welcome to observe at anytime during the school day to help aide in the decision of placing their child in the school.
